‘Spreadsheet error’ led to community group being told it would get €14,500 instead of €500 funding

A clerical error from a Gorey councillor left community groups popping the champagne corks and preparing for a bumper season of works before being rudely brought back down to earth. The error in question related to the annual arts and communities grants issued by the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District (GKMD), an annual tranche of funding which usually sees hundreds, rather than thousands, of Euro granted to groups across the district.

Following the March meeting of the GKMD, Councillor Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin chose to be the bearer of good news for this year’s recipients, informing one group they had received €14,500 when, in fact, they had received just €500.
