Ned Broy (played in the movie by Stephen Rea) was Michael Collin’s most important spy. The most austentatious act of the War of Independence was when Broy, who was serving as a plain clothes detective in the notorious G Division of the DMO smuggled the IRA chief in to the British authorities secret file room on one night in which he gleaned notes on moles, suspects and the identities of G men.

Later he became the country’s second Garda Commissioner. We look at the house at 28 Mayfield Road East in Terenure which Ned Broy bought with his wife Elizabeth and lived in for ten years until appointed Commissioner.
