Injured hiker rescued in Wicklow over bank holiday weekend

Mountain rescue responded to an injured walker in Derrybawn on May bank holiday Monday.

Wicklow’s mountain rescue teams responded to an injured hiker on they bank holiday weekend, representing their 46th callout so far this year.

At 8.14am the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue team were tasked to come to the aid of the hiker who had suffered a suspected lower leg injury around the Derrybawn area.

Mountain rescue personnel drove to a high point on the track system above Glendalough and deployed member onto the hill.

Medics treated the patient, who was then carried in a stretcher to a mountain rescue 4x4 vehicle, which transported them back to base so they could be handed over to a waiting ambulance for onward care.
