Fine Gael Councillor for the Baltinglass MD, Cllr Avril Cronin, has welcomed the commencement of the new 892 Local Link Service between Dunlavin and Newbridge, which she described as “a lifeline for many people living on the Wicklow/Kildare border”.

Running seven days a week, the new route 892, formally route 129, has now extended to Dunlavin, operating eight daily return services, with four daily return services extending to Dunlavin from Monday to Saturday.

Additionally, the route will operate seven daily returns, with three daily return services extending to Dunlavin on Sunday.

Praising the the new service, Cllr Cronin said: “The new bus service, Route 892, will be a lifeline for so many people within the West Wicklow/Kildare border, providing enhanced connectivity between Dunlavin, Brannockstown, Kilcullen, Athgarvan and Newbridge.

“This new route really will be a game changer, providing transport links to larger towns to carry out business such as banking and attend medical appointments. it will also open up many employment opportunities, especially for our younger generation who do not have their own mode of transport.

“Many people within our communities rely heavily on public transport, and this can be a challenge, especially within rural areas. The Local Link service has changed this.

“We now have a daily service from Baltinglass and Dunlavin to Blessington, Naas and Sallins, and a daily service from Dunlavin to Kilcullen and Newbridge.

“We have never before had so many public transport routes within our rural communities, and we now need to ensure that we support these services,” she continued.

“The Local Link service also allows for connectivity to national transport links such as bus and rail services, opening up new opportunities within rural areas.

“I will continue to work with local communities and TFI local link to expand services within other rural villages across West Wicklow. There are still many areas that need enhanced services, and I will continue to work on this with the local communities.”
