There was great excitement in Scoil Naomh Bríd, Knockananna on Wednesday, April 17, when word filtered back from Ballinakill that Knockananna had not one, but two winners in the Cumann na mBunscol skills competition.

There was great pride in having two classmates qualify for the county finals from the previous week’s competition and everyone wished them the very best as they left school on Tuesday evening.

Bobby Murphy and Leah Kinsella will represent Wicklow in Croke Park later this year.

First up on Wednesday morning was Bobby Murphy, who hurls with Michael Dwyers, and is the son of Bob and Pauline Murphy. Rarely seen without a hurl in his hand, Bobby gave a great account of his hurling skills and won the competition.

On his way out, he met Leah Kinsella going into the football competition, told her his good news and wished her well.

Leah, who is the daughter of Denis and Suzanne Kinsella and plays football with St Brigid’s, Clonmore, was more than ready to match Bobby’s achievement, with her high level of skill and determination.

As well as great ability, both players have a love of sport, a great work ethic and the determination to succeed. They will be rewarded with the honour of playing on the hallowed turf of Croke Park, on either All Ireland final or semi-final day, dates yet to be announced.
