Generally instantly recognisable, with her high-vis vest and beaming smile, Wexford Tidy Towns stalwart Phil Murphy may be a little less recognisable after tomorrow as she undergoes a major style change for charity.

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m., Phil will take a seat in The Bullring and have her head shaved in front of friends, family and passers-by in a bid to raise for Relay for Life and the Irish Cancer Society.

It’s a cause that’s close to Phil’s heart.

"I lost two amazing sisters and my beautiful mother to cancer,” she said. “I don’t know any family that hasn’t been affected by it in one way or another.”

Phil has launched a GoFundMe campaign (which you can find here) with “every penny going to Relay for Life”. The fundraiser has already raised over €1,800 and she’s hopeful that a few more will donate on the day and as they see her new style in person!

"I’m a little bit nervous about it alright,” Phil smiles. “But the way I look at it, I’m honoured to be able to do something. I have the choice to do this, my sisters didn’t, and my hair will grow back hopefully.”

All donations to the cause are gratefully received and everyone is welcome to come along and show Phil some support tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. in The Bullring.
