A Wexford GAA referee who nearly lost an eye, suffered a bleed on his brain and multiple broken bones in his face in a “freak” on pitch accident is closing in on a return to duty.

Nearly three weeks ago, Damian Lynch left home to officiate at an U14s clash between Shelmaliers and Oulart the Ballagh. He wouldn’t return home for eight days, during the course of which it looked like the father of two young children would lose his eye, after being struck full-on in the face with a sliotar.
