Roscommon County Council has purchased 13 homes to be refurbished and used for social housing.

The derelict houses in Shannon Valley, off the Sligo Road in Ballaghaderreen, have been purchased by Roscommon County Council.

The houses will be renovated and used to house families on the social housing waiting list for Ballaghaderreen increasing much needed stock in the town.

The deal was confirmed by local Roscommon TD Claire Kerrane who said this was a positive development for the town.

"These houses have been an eyesore and a real plague on the good people living in there who bought their homes in good faith.

"Cllr Michael Mulligan and I have been looking for a solution for this Estate for a number of years and this is the best outcome for existing Residents and for the town – much needed family homes.

“Credit to Roscommon County Council for closing this deal,” said Deputy Kerrane.
