My pastime of breeding a small pedigree herd of Angus cattle took me to a show and sale in Kilmallock the weekend before last.

I had spent the previous few weeks halter-training my 18-month-old bull. Every night after the kids were tucked into bed, I would tip out to the shed, put on the head collar and lead rope, and walk him for five minutes or so.
