‘We’re top of the food chain’ – Rhasidat Adeleke brimming with confidence as Ireland no longer ‘looked down upon’

​It’s over a decade since Ireland won a medal at the two events that matter most in athletics – the Olympics and World Championships – but after bagging a mixed 4x400m bronze at the World Relays in the Bahamas over the weekend, it’s no longer hopeful optimism or downright delusion to think that wait could end this summer.

Because amid all the steps taken by Rhasidat Adeleke towards the top of her sport in recent years, her second-leg performance on Sunday night in Nassau, in which she split a remarkable 48.45 seconds, was one giant leap.
