Cuan Saor women's refuge in Tipperary is to receive €30,000 in funding through the Department of Justice, Senator Garret Ahearn has confirmed.

This funding will be delivered through the Department to tackle domestic, sexual and gender based violence in Ireland. “I am very happy that Cuan Saor have been awarded this much needed funding,” said Senator Ahearn. “They do fantastic work in Clonmel. They have been going for 21 years now and have helped so many families across the county.

“Last year, I visited Cuan Saor with Minister McEntee to speak with the staff and for them to outline what their priorities were going forward. I would like to personally thank all of the staff that work in Cuan Saor. Domestic, sexual and gender-based violence is a serious issue and we need organisations like Cuan Saor to help the victims in their time of need

“It is very clear to Government that domestic violence cases are continuing to rise. Figures from An Garda Síochána show an eight per cent increase in domestic violence calls made in 2023. This is something that we need to ensure we keep on top of and protect people in these situations.

“Organisations like Cuan Saor deal with difficult issues on a daily basis and Government recognises that these supports are very much needed in order to keep these facilities open to the people that need it the most. This allocation shows the recognition that Government has for these services,” concluded Senator Ahearn.
