Tipperary County Council approves plans for OPW building at Rock of Cashel

It is proposed to use the former Healthcare Centre at The Kiln, located at the foot of the Rock of Cashel, as a site for office, administration space and staff facilities for the Office of Public Works (OPW)

Cashel Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the news that Tipperary County Council has approved plans for the conversion of a building at the foot of the Rock of Cashel into staff quarters for the OPW.

“Cashel Chamber of Commerce expresses its delight at the decision by the Tipperary County Council to grant planning to the Office of Public Works for the material change of use of the Healthcare Centre on The Kiln, Cashel, to offices and associated staff facilities,” said Chamber President, Martin Lynch.

Speaking after the announcement of the planning decision, Mr Lynch said that this was “indeed welcome news for the dedicated staff and management at the Rock of Cashel who have been managing and working within limited facilities for the last number of years.

“Their perseverance and commitment to maintaining the integrity and beauty of the Rock of Cashel, despite the challenges, is truly commendable.

“These works will not only improve the working conditions for the staff but also enhance the experience for everyone who visits the Rock of Cashel. We believe that these new facilities will play a significant role in preserving and showcasing the rich history and culture of our beloved Cashel.

“The Chamber looks forward to seeing these new facilities brought into use as soon as possible. We believe that this development will bring about a positive change for everyone involved. Here’s to a brighter future for the Rock of Cashel,” added Mr Lynch.

The plans were lodged with the Council on February 2 this year, and approved on April 15 subject to three conditions.
