Kanturk could get 12 new housing units if county planners grant permission to a company seeking to build a residential development in the town.

Cork company JD Buckley Developments Ltd has applied for permission to build a residential development consisting of four two-bedroom houses, four one-bedroom ground floor apartments and four two-bedroom duplex apartments at a site on Percival Street owned by a man named Patrick O’Leary.

The building of the development would see an existing derelict building on the site demolished while associated site works including a vehicular access, car and bike parking, footpaths, public lighting and boundary walls would also be built.

Late last year permission was granted to an applicant named Frank Thornton for the construction of six residential units consisting of two one-bedroom ground floor apartments and two two-bedroom duplex apartments on a smaller site with the same address.

Cork County Council received the latest application proposing the development on April 10 and a decision is due on it by June 4.

Public submissions regarding the application are due by May 14.
