Paul O’Donovan won his repechage to qualify for the A/B semi-finals of the heavyweight single sculls at the European Championships in Szeged in Hungary today.

There were two semi-final places on offer: O'Donovan and Emil Neykov of Bulgaria took these and fought for the winning spot. O’Donovan broke clear and won. O'Donovan, an Olympic gold medallist in the lightweight double with Fintan McCarthy, competed in the heavyweight single as McCarthy had to cry off with illness.
