As one of the bigger yards in Ireland, Henry de Bromhead’s record at the Punchestown Festival is surprisingly poor, even though he’s been sending plenty of decent horses here in recent years.

Over the last ten festivals, the Waterford-based handler has sent 234 horses to the meeting, and just 11 of those have won, less than 5pc. Last year was particularly tough, with no winners and 26 unplaced from 31 runners.
