Pádraig Harrington made seven birdies in a blistering nine-hole stretch to grab a share of the lead before play was suspended in the Regions Tradition in Alabama.

Chasing his second Senior Major and his eighth win on the PGA Tour Champions, the Dubliner (52) was tied for the lead with Chris DiMarco on seven-under after 13 holes when play was called for the day due to lightning in the area.

As the 2008 PGA Championship winner, Harrington will tee it up in next week’s regular major at Valhalla in Kentucky,

But the 2022 US Senior Open winner is also chasing his second senior Major and after starting on the back nine at Greystone Golf and Country Club, he quickly caught fire.

He birdied the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th to turn in 31 before picking up further shots at the second and third to share the lead with DiMarco (55), who had also played 13 holes when play was suspended.

The former Ryder Cup players were two shots clear of the field with Darren Clarke tied for 11th on three-under, also after 13 holes.
