Is the West awake? Or is it to continue its 23-year slumber since Galway last lifted Sam Maguire on behalf of the province? Come 6.0pm on Sunday afternoon, we will know one way or the other.

Do either Mayo or Galway have the genuine credentials to mount an All-Ireland challenge this year? Or are the real contenders still to remain from within the other three provinces in the shape of Dublin, Kerry and a wing-clipped Derry? There is work to be done by both sides to mend their reputations from last year. Trust in either Connacht side has been severely damaged, this side of the Shannon at least, since their respective capitulations in last year’s All-Ireland group stages.
