Woodstock Educate Together National School is the latest school to join-up with Newtownmountkennedy’s Junior Tidy Towns initiative.

On Wednesday, April 17, Newtownmountkennedy Tidy Towns visited the school for second and third classes launch of their own Junior Tidy Towns group, and were provided with hi-vis vests and litter pickers supplied by local sponsor Coillte.

The initiative was organised by Newtown Tidy Towns Chairperson Jen Quinn and has proved a resounding success.

“It’s a great way to get the schools involved. We are delighted to have Woodstock Educate Together on board. We discussed with the pupils just what tidy towns do and what is safe to pick up.

“We then went off around the town in our groups and the kids were delighted with their finds. Overall, three bags of rubbish were collected,” said Jen.

The Newtownmounkennedy Tidy Towns team is already hard at work planting, weeding, fixing and repairing and, in recognition of this, will be the beneficiaries of a fundraising concert at Wicklow Wolf Brewery.

The Orlando Molina Quintet perform at the brewery on Monday, May 6 from 2pm. The event is free, but jazz fans will be asked instead to donate to the local Tidy Towns group.

It’s part of the three-day Bray Jazz Festival.
