Close to 50 bikers took part in Sunday’s Mark Coster Annual Remembrance Run which departed from Bray seafront and made its way to Rathnew Cemetery.

As well as honouring Mark’s memory, who passed away in 2021, the event also acted as a fundraiser for the I Am Alex campaign, in aid of four-year-old Alex Dunne who suffers from the rare brain condition Periventricular Leukomalacia. It was the second year running in which the annual run was held to help raise funds for Alex to modify the family home so as to accommodate his needs.

Alex and his parents, Dave and Cliona, attended the gathering in Rathnew Cemetery and are extremely grateful for all the support they received.

Dave said: “It was an absolute honour to receive the support of the run for the second year in a row and we will definitely be supporters of the Mark Coster Annual Memorial Run for years to come.

“It was wonderful to catch up with Mark’s wife Angelina again and all the team behind the run. They ended up raising around €1,500, which is an absolute phenomenal amount for our campaign.

“It was a lovely day with great weather and between 40 and 50 motor bikes were involved. They travelled from Bray to Rathnew Cemetery, where they honoured Mark’s memory at his graveside and laid some flowers and wreaths.

“A great deal of effort went into the run and we are so grateful for all the donations. It was a moving and memorable day. Some of the new participants hadn’t crossed over the gap before so they headed off to Arklow from Rathnew afterwards.”
