Feile champions

Congratulations to Blesso LGFA team who were crowned Wicklow Féile Champions in Division 1. The competition took place in Blessington and the pitches were in excellent condition. The girls were in a group with Tinahely, An Tocher and AGB. In the opening match they lost by a single point to Tinahely but defeated An Tocher and AGB to reach the semi-finals which they won against Carnew. In the final they were up against Tinahely and this time around Blesso won the match to be crowned Wicklow Féile champions. The all-Ireland Féile Finals will take place at the end of June at Connaught venues. I am sure that you celebrated your victory and now you can look forward to the all-Ireland Finals.

Talk

West Wicklow Mental Health Association in collaboration with the HSE invites you to a Suicide Alertness for everyone event to highlight the importance of suicide prevention training and safe talk for all in the Blessington community. This talk will take place this Wednesday, May 8, in the Coimin Centre Blessington from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come along for information advice, chats and some refreshments.

Death

The recent death took place of Desmond Phelan, who lived in Rockypool Crescent Blessington for a long number of years. In recent times he lived in Clondalkin Dublin. He was well known in the Blessington area and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His remains were removed to the Church of Our Lady Blessington on Saturday, April 27, for his funeral Mass and his burial took place afterwards in Burgage Cemetery Blessington. Condolences to his family at this very sad time in their lives.

Parish Lotto draw

There was another lotto draw for the Parish/St Mary’s National Schools on Thursday, May 2, with another new jackpot standing at a cool €1,325 which was not won. This previous jackpot had survived a lot of lotto draws. The winning numbers drawn were 4, 10, 19 and 29. The weekly winner wins €25. The next lotto draw will have a brand – new jackpot which will be standing at €1,450. Walk

A final reminder. The Darkness into Light Walk will commence at 4.15 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, from Blessington Town Square. This popular event raises much needed funds for a very worthy charity and the local organisers are looking for your support so please make sure to take part in the walk.

Cemetery Sunday

Cemetery Sunday will take place at Burgage Cemetery on Sunday, May 19, at 3 p.m. There will be Mass which will be followed by the blessing of all the graves in the cemetery. Parishioners are asked to notify relatives and friends living outside the area in plenty of time in case they may wish to attend the ceremonies on that afternoon. Hopefully the weather will behave itself as if the weather is good it will lead to a more enjoyable event. The organisers would like to advise parishioners to make sure to tidy up the graves of your loved ones.

Trócaire boxes

There is a reminder to all of you out there who have had Trócaire Boxes to drop them into Blessington parish office as soon as possible.

Rosary and Holy Hour

Rosary and Holy Hour will take place in the Church of Our Lady Blessington every Tuesday night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All are most welcome to come along.

Summer soccer camp

Blessington AF C are delighted to announce that they will be running a Club Football summer Camp. The camp will run from July 15 to July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spaces will be limited so you are advised to book early so as not to be disappointed. This camp is open to everyone. You do not have to be a member of Blessington AFC to take part. Payments can be made in two instalments, one in April and the other one in May. The camp will be for girls and boys aged five to 14 years and it will be taking place at the club’s Crosschapel Grounds. Log onto to Blessington AFC Website or Facebook for all the relevant details.

History talk

Blessington History Society will hold a Talk on Thursday, May 16, in the Coimin Centre Blessington at 8 p.m. with the speaker being Gerry Lovett and the subject wil.l be History of the Special Branch1922-1947. All are most welcome.

GAA lotto draw

Blessington held their latest lotto draw last Tuesday and once again no one won the jackpot. The winning numbers drawn were 8, 10, 22, 23 and only four punters managed to match three numbers with each winning €75. The new jackpot will be standing at €12,000 which would be well worth winning. The draw will take place on Tuesday, May14.

First Communions

The following National schools in the parish will have their First Communion, Saturday, May 11, St Mary’s National School Blessington, May 12 Valleymount National School, May 18 Gaelscoil na Lochanna Baile Coimin. I hope all the young people have a most enjoyable day.

Manor Kilbride NS

Manor Kilbride National School would like to remind you that they have spaces available in junior infants for September this year.

Market and car boot sale

If you are looking for a great day out then why not drop along to Donard Community Hall on Sunday, May 19, where they will be running a car boot sale and Market.

The Market will have something for everyone including jewellery, flowers, paintings, sourdough, printed unique cups and mugs, books, candles and honey and lots more.

Both events will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
