Positive reviews as public meet Wicklow local elections candidates online

Understanding the challenges for candidates trying to reach their community, webinars have been arranged so members of the public can hear from candidates running in their area before voting on June 7. It also provides an opportunity for candidates to hear about the concerns and issues that are important to their local electorate.

The webinars started on May 7 with a meeting for Arklow candidates, followed by a webinar for Baltinglass Municipal District on May 9. Further webinars for Bray West take place on Thursday, May 16, Greystones on Tuesday, May 21, Wicklow on Thursday, May 23 and finishing with Bray East on Tuesday, May 28.

Conor Kirwan, Wicklow PPN Secretariat member said “Feedback from the first sessions have been very positive and have provided a good insight into the knowledge and experiences of the candidates and where their interests and priorities lie.

“Questions for the sessions have been submitted in advance from our member groups and have in the most part focused on housing, safety and security for everyone, our environment and biodiversity loss, supporting community groups and adequate services for older people and people with disabilities.”

Carina Holmes, representing the Wicklow Older People’s Council said “The majority of candidates running in the local elections have engaged with us and we are grateful to them. We are also grateful to our members who submitted their questions and attended on the night. The sessions have been recorded and will be made available on the County Wicklow PPN YouTube Channel for those who were unable to tune in on the night.”
