Bray East Labour Councillor, Anne Ferris, launched her re-election campaign in front of friends, family and colleagues, including TD and former Labour Leader Alan Kelly.

Councillor Paul O’Brien also travelled from his base in Wicklow town to Bray to support his party colleague and expressed his hopes that they would both be members of the new Council in Wicklow after the local elections on June 7.

Deputy Alan Kelly told the gathering that he had a deep affection for Anne and was delighted to visit her hometown of Bray to lend his support.

He recounted memories of their time working together in Dáil Éireann and commented that both he and Anne were always there for each other during the difficult days. He also commended Anne for all the work she had done, and continues to do, for equality and the inclusion of women, and especially her commitment and support for women who had been incarcerated in Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Baby Homes.

Cllr Ferris told her supporters that if re-elected she would continue to be the voice for the inclusion of women and for all families and people who were struggling to survive.

Anne said her priorities are housing for all, more community gardaí on our streets to combat anti-social behaviour, and a thorough review of traffic management in Bray. She thanked all those who attended her election launch for their love and support and said she hoped to make them all proud.

Cllr Ferris is a Board member of the Kildare-Wicklow Education & Training Board and serves on the Board of Management of Coláiste Ráithín. She was formally a director of the Bray & District Chamber of Commerce, Bray Tourism and the Mermaid Arts Centre and is active in various other organisations.

In 2011, Cllr Ferris was elected to Dáil Éireann and was appointed Vice-Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice & Equality. She graduated from UCD in 2020 with a BA in English and History.
