I have always felt indifferent about my five years in secondary school. As a student in the classroom I didn’t particularly thrive and I enjoyed very little. I spent the majority of my time either on a pitch, in a gym or on a bus, and those moments are the ones that I recount with fondness.
My mother often reminds me of one particular parent teacher meeting during my Leaving Certificate year when she was told that if there was a bus leaving the school for chess I would have been on it.
