A senior University of Limerick (UL) official briefly left his post last year during a row over the purchase of student housing without proper planning permission.

The dispute eventually led to a restructuring of roles at the university, after UL provost Shane Kilcommins interrogated new information around UL’s decision to spend €11.44m, plus tax, on a controversial housing scheme.
