Gardaí catch teen learner driver doing twice speed limit with no tax or NCT in Laois

A teenage learner driver was caught driving more than double the speed limit through a Co Laois town on Monday.

The Laois Roads Policing Unit detected a vehicle travelling at 104kmh in a 50kmh zone in Portlaoise Town.

Once the car was pulled over, the Laois Roads Policing Unit quickly discovered that the driver was actually a learner permit holder who was driving unaccompanied and without L-Plates displayed.

Not only was the driver travelling at over double the speed limit through a busy town centre, but there was no tax or NCT on the car.

Subsequently, the car was seized by Gardaí and the driver faces a court appearance.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána confirmed: “Laois Roads Policing detected this vehicle travelling at 104kmh in a 50kmh zone in Portlaoise Town last night [Monday April 23].

"The driver was a teenage learner permit holder who was driving while unaccompanied and without L-Plates displayed.

“There was no tax or NCT on the vehicle which was seized.”
