Teaching kids how to manage their communion money is a key life lesson

Parents need to sit down with their children before the event, and agree some basics over how to deal with it

As communion season takes off, swiftly followed by confirmation day, back gardens around the country will be awash with bouncy castles, hairdressers full with younger customers, and little white dresses flying off the shelves.

Although priests are at pains each year to point out that the religious rite of passage is about sacred celebration, try telling that to the average eight-year-old, whose allegiance is often to the god of mammon.
