Child runs on pitch with flare and PSNI attacked by missiles after chaotic Derry City clash

Police are investigating trouble which broke out after last night’s Derry City v Shamrock Rovers match. At one stage a firework was thrown onto the pitch from outside the stadium, with a child running onto the surface and carrying it away.

Rovers fans were also forced to gather in the centre circle after the final whistle as order was restored. Police responding to incidents near the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium also came under attack from missiles, with some PSNI vehicles damaged.

Officers said they dealt with disorder in the Lone Moor Road area of Derry. Chief Inspector Moyne said: “Officers intervened following public disorder after a football match in the area.
