Athlone Town forward Casey Howe has topped the voting in the Women's Premier Division Player of the Month award for April.

The Northern Ireland international scored a brace in Athlone's huge 3-1 win over champions Peamount last month, with Ciaran Kilduff's side currently second in the table with 10 points from the opening five games.

One of those strikes was also nominated for the League of Ireland Goal of the Month. Howe joined the Midlanders earlier this season from Sligo Rovers and has made a big impact so far, with Athlone looking to follow up last year's FAI Cup triumph with a first league title in their history.

Enniskillen native Howe won the award, having been voted ahead of Shelbourne skipper Pearl Slattery and Cork City's Eva Mangan.

Athlone will be hoping to make it three wins on the bounce when they take on Wexford FC on May 11 before they host the Bit O'Red, Howe's former club, a fortnight later.
