Ireland striker Callum Robinson has been disciplined by Cardiff City, his manager Erol Bulut has confirmed.

The forward was left out of the squad for their Championship win over Birmingham City last Wednesday for disciplinary reasons, with full-back Mahlon Romeo also omitted for the same reason.

But while Romeo will return to the squad for their next clash away to Millwall tomorrow, the Cardiff boss said that Robinson’s return date remains unclear.

“They are not injured. It's a disciplinary penalty from my side. We don’t need to speak about this. It is internal, we cleared it. I spoke with the player,” said Bulut when asked about the pair’s absences.

"I said at the start of the season that discipline and respect is the most important thing for me. They were a little bit away from that. That’s why they were not with us

"For Robbo, we will have a discussion. I will also have a talk with Mahlon, but he will be back [for Saturday]."

Last October, the Cardiff boss was also critical of Robinson and insisted that the 29-year-old had to up his work rate to remain in the side.

“Robbo, he is quality. I like what he showed in pre-season, but if I see the last two games of Robinson, I cannot say that I am satisfied. I’m going to have a meeting to tell him what I am expecting of him. Sometimes players forget,” he said last year.

“Robbo is experienced. But if Robbo wants to play he has to give everything for the team like other players.”

Having signed for the Welsh club from West Brom in September 2022, the forward made just nine Championship starts at the beginning of this season before an injury last January saw him sidelined for 10 weeks before he returned to action late last month. But after being omitted from this week's squad, it remains to be seen when he will return to action, with Cardiff currently eleventh and nine points off the play-offs with four games remaining.

At international level, Robinson’s most recent cap came under Stephen Kenny in the Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to the Netherlands last November, while he missed last month’s friendly double-header against Belgium and Switzerland due to injury.
