Ashford Historical Society is appealing for more old photographs from local people to add to their collection of digitised images of people, places and items of historical interest.

The team is looking for any images relating to Ashford and Glenealy parish, along with any stories regarding their origin or significance. All photographs received will be returned to owners, who will be acknowledged as source.

The call-out comes off the back of an enjoyable evening at the Ashford Community and Heritage Centre featuring a digital presentation of old photographs of Ballinalea and Aghowle.

The late Dick Fitzpatrick supplied the photographs of Ballinalea while Margaret Connolly was the source of the Aghowle photos. There was a lot of interaction around each photo recalling happy memories of times past and the next Ashford Historical Society session will cover more digital photographs of the rest of Ashford village.

Some of the images on display on the night includes photos of Ballinalea, then called Bonalea, from the 1950s and beyond, as well as a striking image from the 1940s of a bicycle race passing through Ballinalea in the 1940s as it made its way towards Glenealy.

The historical society hope to hold more presentations of old photos in the near future as they provide lots of discussion and enjoyment.
