St Tegan’s Hall in Kiltegan was alive with the sounds of toe-tapping music and good cheer when a talented line-up of local performers took to the stage at an upbeat variety concert to raise funds for the historic hall.

Playing to a packed house, the two-hour concert featured a stellar ensemble of performers, including Dermot, Blanch and Noah, Katie Phelan, Jorum, Ukrainian Ladies, Blueberry Pickers, Cecil Chairde Agus Damhsa, Toby and Zara, Johnny Gleeson, Vintage 45's and JJ Thompson.

Enchanting the crowd with music incorporating all manner of styles and instruments, from country to trad and everything between, attendees sang along to some classic tunes.

The warm and convivial event culminated with a short speech from the St Tegan Hall Committee Chair, John Timmins, who thanked the performers, organisers and audience with a special presentation made to John Lennon – “the brainchild” of the event.

“As Chair of the St Tegan Hall Committee, I want to thank you most sincerely for your attendance here tonight,” John Timmins began.

“I’d like to thank the committee for all the hard work they put in organising this, selling tickets, making buns and scones and various things. Kieran Fitzgerald, what would we do without him and his back room staff?

“Thanks to the parking attendants and all those who donated wonderful prizes to the raffle. And to you, our wonderful audience and the musicians here tonight put on a great night of entertainment. You’d be blown away by the amount of talent on show here tonight.

“This event was the brainchild of John Lennon,” he continued.

“John rang our treasurer Danny Byrne about six weeks ago to see if he could organise something.

“It was John’s idea to dedicate the night to the late Sean Furlong. John had this idea, and said he would organise it all, and fair play to him – he organised a great show.

“On behalf of the hall committee, we just want to thank him sincerely for what he has done for our hall, organising such wonderful entertainment. A big thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
