New figures released by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) have shown that motorists applying for their driving test at the Wicklow driving test centre can expect a wait time of 20 weeks.

As of March 31, the RSA Driving Test Centre in The Murrough, Wicklow town, projected an estimated wait time of 20 weeks, with drivers expected to receive their invitation in August.

By contrast, wait times at RSA test centres in neighbouring Wexford (11 weeks) and Carlow (12 and 13 weeks respectively), while wait times at the Naas centre are 25 weeks, with Dublin centres ranging from 13 weeks (Finglas) to Dun Laoghaire/Deansgrange (31), with the latter experiencing the longest wait times in the country.

The RSA statistics also show that, as of the end of March, two driver testers were assigned to the Wicklow, one of which is listed as ‘active’.

In Wexford, four testers are listed (Gorey and Wexford), with three in Carlow (two active), seven in Kildare (six active) and 36 active across Dublin.

Regarding the volume of driver testing applications at the Wicklow centre, there was a total of 2,268 at the end of March, including 265 scheduled applications, 796 waiting for applicants, 805 paused applications – applicants who have been issued with an invitation to book a test but have not used it within 10 days – and 402 ineligible applications.
