Sinn Féin representatives from Wexford have met with members of the Irish Farmer’s Association (IFA) to discuss the issues concerning them in a sector which has suffered as a result of the prolonged spells of bad weather. Held in Leinster House and facilitated by Rosslare candidate in this summer’s local elections, Aoife Rose O’Brien, the discussion saw Sinn Féin’s spokesperson for agriculture Claire Kerrane TD, Johnny Mythen TD, and Councillor Tom Forde hold counsel with MJ Scallan, Tom Doyle, Liam O'Byrne and Jer O'Mahony of the IFA.

"There is a disconnect between policy makers and the people on the ground,” said the IFA delegates. “What we need to do is find a solution that benefits both the farmer and the environmental needs. It's challenging to be both environmentally sustainable and successful for the farmer, and right now what we are hearing is that these regulations aren't working for anyone. Consultation is what is needed here.
