While they may be described as a ‘Limerick band’, there’s a distinct Wexford element to indie folk trio Kingfishr.

Firstly, the band features Enniscorthy native Eddie Keogh on guitar and vocals, alongside Tipp native McGoo on banjo and Corkonian Fitz on bass.

All three met while studying engineering at University of Limerick and have since been claimed by the Treaty county.

However, as well as being one third Wexfordian, the band is also named after the bird which frequents the River Boro near Eddie’s homeplace.

So it’s a homecoming of sorts then as the trio have officially been announced as the latest act on the bill for this year’s Wexford Spiegeltent Festival, taking to the stage under the big top on November 2.

In two short years, the band have cemented their place as “ones to watch”, their atmospheric tone married with their propensity for catchy melodies garnering them a loyal following.

In that time, they’ve racked up over 10 million streams on Spotify and in 2023 they saw debut sold out tours across the UK and Ireland, as well as supporting huge names like Dermot Kennedy and George Ezra.

Their Wexford debut comes as part of a brand new UK and Ireland tour announcement for October and November 2024, which will be the band’s biggest tour to date.

Tickets for the Spiegeltent show go on general sale this Friday from wexfordspiegeltent.com and ticketmaster.ie.
