LFA Junior Shield

Sunday was a special day for Division 3 high-flyers Ballymurn Celtic as they booked their place in the LFA Junior Shield final.

Brody Murphy and Seán Walsh scored for the Wexford representatives as they secured a 2-1 away win over Ballyoulster United to move within 90 minutes of lifting the silverware.

Billy Browne Cup semi-finals

Rosslare Strand and Bunclody ‘B’ will contest this year’s Billy Browne Cup final after both came through gruelling final four clashes on Sunday. Rosslare Strand needed penalties to see off the challenge of Bree United after fighting back from a two-goal deficit to force extra-time at Crossabeg AFC’s grounds.

When Noel Roche scored a quickfire double shortly after the interval Bree looked to be on their way to the final, but Strand had other ideas, and Conor Clancy halved the deficit in the 55th minute before Danny O’Reilly levelled matters just two minutes later.

Extra-time failed to produce any further goals so it was left to a shoot-out to decide who would progress, with Rosslare Strand prevailing 4-2.

Bunclody ‘B’ also staged a fightback, recovering from 2-0 down to edge out Blackwater FC 3-2 at Billy Browne Park.

Goals from Patrick O’Connor and Ollie Murphy in quick succession midway through the opening half looked to have Blackwater in control, but David Halpin scored on the stroke of half-time to give Bunclody hope.

Joe Roberts equalised ten minutes after the change of ends, and Seweryn Gadzina grabbed the winner in the 69th minute.
