The appointment of Simon Harris as Taoiseach may not, on the face of it, have impacted the people of Enniscorthy too much, but the one significant ministerial change made by the Fine Gael leader has implications for the Wexford town.

By promoting Patrick O’Donovan to Minister for Further and Higher Education, the new Taoiseach left a vacancy in a position which is of particular interest to those concerned about repeated flooding in Enniscorthy. Minister O’Donovan had previously held the role of Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), the organisation which holds the purse strings for the much-needed and long-awaited flood relief works in the town.
