A 43 year old off-duty Sligo garda who crashed his BMW into a tree planter and subsequently charged before the district court with drunk driving had the case dismissed by Judge Brendan O’Reilly over a nine day delay in sending a blood sample for analysis.

The garda however was convicted of careless driving, fined €2,000 and disqualified from driving for one year.
