Private pet surrenders ‘through the roof’ as Louth dog rescue service forced to turn down requests

Rescue centre at ‘crisis point’ as animals continue to be handed in, March’s vet bill was €6,000 and other bills also need to be paid

"It’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re absolutely swamped with dogs and there’s no let off,” Bobby Wain, director of Dundalk Dog Rescue stated this week.

“We can’t take any more private surrenders. We are up to our eyes. We have never been as inundated with the amount of surrenders. The amount of personal surrenders locally has gone through the roof,” he said, revealing that they had 67 requests by people wanting to surrender dogs in the past six weeks.
