The enthusiastic students from Colaiste Ris return to An Tain Arts Centre on Wednesday May 1 for three nights with their Transition Year production of the hit musical Little Shop of Horrors.

The story follows a meek florist Seymour, as he tries to save Mr. Mushnik’s struggling flower shop by purchasing a mysterious new plant to draw in new customers. He names the plant Audrey Two, in hopes to win the affection of his colleague Audrey. He purchased it from a Chinese flower shop during a solar eclipse and plant attracts a great deal of business to the store as it grows, but things take a turn that Seymour hadn’t intended, when he pricks his finger and discovers that it has a taste for human blood.

The comedy horror was made into a very successful movie starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardina and Steve Martin with guest appearances by Jim Belushi, John Candy, and Bill Murray,

The cast features a cast of 76 with the lead role of Seymour played by James O Donoghue with Grace King as Audrey, Tadgh Fitzgerald plays her nasty dentist boyfriend Orin with Mark Dawe as Mr Mushnik.

Teminioluwa Aruwajoye and Conall Mullen take turns as Audrey Two, the smooth-talking/singing carnivorous plant, with plans for world domination.

Other leading roles are played by Kate Johnson, Jessica Keenan, Bronagh Harmon and Leah Agnew.

This is the Dundalk school’s tenth show in a row after its great tradition of staging musicals was revived following a fifteen year break so, under the direction of teacher Evan Markey, they are pulling out all the stops to ensure that it’s a top notch production.
