Over 150 years after the school first opened in Tralee, a plaque is being erected to remember those who passed through its doors. A victim talks of his delight at the announcement.

Victims of St Joseph’s Industrial School in Tralee are to be recognised at a special ceremony this Saturday (May 4) when a plaque will be unveiled acknowledging the suffering they endured at the site.

The plaque will carry a simple yet poignant inscription: ‘To acknowledge the children who passed through the doors of St Joseph's Industrial School between 1871 to 1970. Erected by Kerry County Council.’
