Bambie Thug will wave the Irish flag at Eurovision 2024 in Sweden this year after winning The Late Late Show Eurosong special last night.

The Cork-born singer, whose father is Swedish, will perform their song Doomsday Blue, which secured a top place based on a combined public, international jury and national jury vote.

Their performance was praised by the expert panel last night, which included Dancing with the Stars judge Arthur Gourounlian, singer and 1993 UK Eurovision entrant Sonia Evans, RTÉ radio presenter Louise Duffy and comedian Gearoid Farrelly.

With the strong support of their fans and a designated hashtag #sendthewitch that has been trending on X, Bambie Thug will represent Ireland in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmo, where it will take place after the 2023 win for Loreen.

The non-binary artist moved to London on a scholarship for dance because they were training to become a ballerina, Bambie previously told Cork Beo.

However, they broke their arm during college, which led Bambie to study musical theatre instead.

The singer is an independent artist based in London who has amassed more than 45,000 monthly listeners on Spotify with their unique style of “ouija-pop” and hyperpunk.

Their biggest hit Tsunami was released in 2022 and has reached more than 700,000 listeners.

Bambie’s debut song Birthday premiered in 2021, shortly followed by their first EP Psilocyber including three singles.

The self-described “Nightcore Barbie” could be seen performing at the packed-out Download Festival in June 2023, and The Great Escape in Brighton in May 2023.

They also performed live at BBC Maida Vale Studios on Christmas Eve in 2022.

Bambie is a prolific songwriter whose songs written for other artists of varying genres have amassed 50 million streams. These artists include Cassyette, KID BRUNSWICK, and FabiCH.

Their instrumentals were also included in some of the UK's biggest nu-gen hits like Dear Goth or Petrichor, and HBO’s Sex And The City reboot Just Like That.

“Bambie Thug is your witchy king antidote to the world,” Bambie told Mike James Rock Show on YouTube.

“I make ouija pop music, it’s a fusion of everything,” they said.

DIY Magazine has described them as “Lady Gaga’s final boss form”, whereas Metal Hammer Magazine said that “Bambie Thug is an artist in every sense”.

Their first Eurovision performance will take place in the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 7, with a chance of performing in the grand final on Saturday, May 11.
