A man in his 30s is being questioned after €133,000 worth of cigarettes were seized in south Dublin.

An operation was conducted last Friday involving Revenue and Gardaí as part of an intelligence-led operation.

Revenue officers seized over 159,000 cigarettes at the business premises on May 3.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Dunhill’ and ‘Karelia’, have an estimated value of approximately €133,600, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €105,000.

“The man in his 30s has been questioned and investigations are ongoing,” Revenue stated.

“This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.

"If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295,” they added.

This seizure adds to Revenue’s €12 million worth of cigarettes uncovered in February, €5 million uncovered in March and €3.6 million in April.
